First of all, we should highlight that the SyRoTek system is actually designed for Linux users only. The second important restriction, which needs to be mentioned, lies in supported development environments. The access to the SyRoTek robotic platform can be easily realized through NetBeans 7.0 with a special SyRoTek Plugin and the robotic platform can be controlled only using the Player hardware abstraction layer supporting the robot device interface.

Player Robot Device Interface adapted for SyRoTek

As highlighted above, the only tool for controlling the remote multi-robot platform SyRoTek is the Player interface (see http://playerstage.sourceforge.net/ for details on Player). Here, we strongly recommend you to use the Player version adapted for SyRoTek requirements, which includes all functionalities necessary for utilizing of the SyRoTek system. Installation of this version is the same as the installation of standard Player environment and you can follow these instructions for it.

Stage adapted for SyRoTek

Another important software, which needs to be downloaded is Stage adapted for SyRoTek requirements. Stage simulates a population of mobile robots, sensors and objects in a two-dimensional bitmapped environment. Details on Stage and instructions for installation can be again found in http://playerstage.sourceforge.net/.

  • SyRoTek Stage (714 kB, update 21. 11. 2011)
  • viewer.so to update distribution, copy file to /usr/local/lib/ (21. 11. 2011)

SyRoTek Plugin for Netbeans

As mentioned, the only development environment supported by developers of the SyRoTek system is the NetBeans 7.0 application platform complemented by a special SyRoTek Plugin. The required version 7.0 of NetBeans can be downloaded from the NetBeans project web-page http://netbeans.org/. For the installation one can simply follow the instructions mentioned there. Once the NetBeans are installed, the SyRoTek Plugins is required.

Some hints and guidelines on installation of the required software and setting up user’s system to maximize effect of functionalities provided by SyRoTek can be found in the in Section 2.2 of the manual evailable in English or in Czech.
